Abstract
The study intended to form a valid and reliable instrument that can be utilized to measure the holistic learning tendencies of students. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was performed to detect the factor structure of the holistic learning tendencies scale. EFA showed that the scale comprised three factors and thirteen items. The “social benefit virtue” factor consists of five items, and the variance rate explained is 19.792%. The “self-awareness” factor comprises five items, and the variance rate explained is 16.118%. The “openness to differences” factor consists of three items, and the variance rate explained is 11.261%. The total variance rate explained by three factors is 47.171%. The three-factor structure model was analyzed by confirmatory factor analysis, and the fit indices calculated are as follows: χ2 value=122.18 (sd=61, p<.00), (χ2/sd)=2.00, RMSEA= .052, GFI= .95, AGFI= .93, CFI= .94, NFI= .89, RMR= .019, SRMR= .055. The item-total correlations of the scale ranged from .28 to .56. From the t-test results between average item scores of the lower 27% and upper 27% groups, it is seen that the differences are significant for all items. Cronbach Alpha internal consistency coefficients were determined as .74 for the “social benefit virtue” factor; for the “self-awareness” factor was determined as .62 and for the “openness to differences” factor was determined as .42. The Cronbach Alpha value for all items of the scale was detected as .68. As a result of findings, it can be claimed that a valid and reliable scale has been brought to the field. Developing data collection instruments related to holistic learning for different age groups is recommended.
